Signature XL speaker cable : 새로운 기술, 향상된 성능, 동일한 가격(당분간)
코드는 다양한 가격대의 예산으로 최상의 성능을 발휘할 케이블을 제공하기 위해 늘 노력하고 있습니다. 최고급 모델에 최신의 재질이나 기술을 채용하고 난 뒤에는 다른 모델에도 같은 잇점을 제공합니다. 그 결과 좀 단순화된 버전의 신기술이 하위의 주력 상품에도 도입하였습니다.
쉬운 예로서 Chord의 최상위 모델인 ChordMusic에 Taylon이 채용되었는데, 이 절연재는 위상이 일정하여 음악적 성능에 있어서 괄목할 만한 진보를 이룩한 것입니다. 한편 이 재질은 가격이 비싸고 조립이 복잡해서 최고급 케이블에 제한적으로 사용되어 최상위 고객들만 사용할 수 있었습니다. 그러나 이제 이 새로운 Taylon 절연재를 Sarum-T에도 적용하여 보다 폭넓은 애호가들에게 혜택에 돌아 갈 수 있게 되었습니다.
이제 우리의 관심은 Chord Signature 케이블입니다. 2004.5월경 이 케이블이 맨 처음 소개되었을 때 최초의 고주파 차단 케이블로서 케이블 성능에서 비약적인 발전을 보여 준 것이었습니다. 그 후 수년간 전도체 및 차폐에 변경 등으로 디자인에 발전을 거듭하여 최종적으로 Signature Reference cable 이 탄생했습니다.
Signature Reference cable 은 다른 케이블과 마찬가지로 테프론이라 불리는 PTFE 절연재를 사용하였습니다. 가격이 비싸기는 하지만 당시 최상의 성능을 보여 주는 절연체였습니다.
그간 물질 기술에 대한 연구를 거듭하여 테프론을 대체할 수 있는 신물질을 개발했습니다. 그것은 XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene)인데 비교 시청 결과, 기존의 Signature Reference cable 보다 성능이 월등한 것으로 판명되었습니다.
Signature XL speaker cable: new technology, improved performance, same price (but not for long!)
We strive constantly to offer the maximum possible musical performance for the widest range of budgets. When new materials or technologies are incorporated into our flagship models, we investigate how we can bring these benefits to as many other products as possible. Simplified versions of these technologies will commonly find their way into our more mainstream ranges.
A recent example was the introduction of Taylon® with our flagship ChordMusic range of cables. This phase-stable insulation marked a massive step forward in musical performance. Cost and complexity of construction resulted in a range of cables that were restricted to the most demanding systems and well-heeled music lovers. This discovery, however, led to the development of the SarumT cable range – still benefiting from Taylon® insulation, but featuring a simplified shielding system, making more accessible to wider range of music-lovers.
Our attention then turned to Chord Signature speaker cable…
Signature was our first high-frequency shielded speaker cable. At the time of its introduction (2004/5), it marked a massive leap in speaker cable performance. Over the years, the design was further refined with changes in conductor insulation and shielding, resulting in Signature Reference speaker cable.
Signature Reference, like most of our cables, uses PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, was our “go to” material. Although expensive, it offered the best performance.
Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in our Signature range, we were able to find a suitable family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One version of this material looked particularly interesting and following listening tests, proved to be clearly better than the PTFE in Signature Reference.
